2019 ByWater Solutions Summary and Year in Review

Message from Nate Curulla, CRO

2019 not only marked the 10 year anniversary of ByWater, it also resulted in tremendous growth for the company. Along with our record breaking sales numbers for the year, both in value and in the size of new libraries signed, ByWater rolled out two new products, the FOLIO LSP and Aspen Discovery, and hired staff to fill position in two new divisions within the company.

Our partnership with EBSCO to be their implementation and support company for FOLIO systems in the USA offered tremendous growth potential within ByWater, and the purchase of Turning Leaf Technologies and the hiring of Mark Noble to support Aspen Discovery entered ByWater into the Discovery niche. Aspen is already taking off and we have brought on 4 new libraries, one being a large consortium in Colorado. We see great potential for this product’s adoption rate. Koha has also grown by leaps and bounds, with hundreds of new features added to the system and the application of Elastic as the search engine opens up many new possibilities for the project.

We have also drastically expanded Koha’s RestAPI functionality, making it even easier to connect to 3rd party products than before. Koha is also very close to having native ILL functionality with other separate Koha systems, and we are in the process of testing that feature with many of our partners. We see Koha taking on more and more market share within the library technology realm and it is showing no sign of slowing down, with many new libraries lining up for the 2020 migration schedule. All in all 2019 was a tremendous year for ByWater, Koha, FOLIO and Aspen, and we look forward to an even more productive 2020!
